RO and field staff guide

← All guides

For those working in the field: Range Officer (enters scores) and officials (RM / Stats / CRO — progress, DQ, corrections and appeals).

Want to understand what happens behind each action (signatures, DQ zeroing stages, reversals, DNF, attendance)? See Result flows and integrity.

1. Sign in as RO

  1. Login as RO (or official).
  2. Enter the username, club code and password provided by your entity.
  3. After login, choose the match you will work at (the list shows every match you are assigned to).
  4. In the RO panel you see the stages assigned to you.

2. Typical RO flow

  1. Choose the stage → the squad → the athlete.
  2. Equipment check (if the match requires it) — complete the check before entering scores. If the athlete does not have a PIN yet, the system asks them to create and confirm the 4-digit PIN at that moment.
  3. Mark attendance (Present / No-show) in the squad list — no-show is not a DNF.
  4. Open Enter score: fill in the time, procedurals (PROC) and the target grid.
  5. Tap Approve and summary — the athlete sees points, Hit Factor and PROC.
  6. The athlete types the 4-digit PIN on the on-screen keypad. Athlete without a PIN: in a Match without equipment check, they create the PIN on this first Score entry. In a Match with check the PIN is born at the check — but if the check is already done and the athlete still has no PIN (the typical case of a PIN reset by management), the Score entry screen offers to create the PIN right there. Only with the check pending do you need to send the athlete to the check before entering the Score.
  7. Confirm and submit — the result is saved.
Without a valid PIN, the score is not saved. Several wrong attempts can temporarily block the PIN on that athlete.

3. What the system does when a score is entered

  • Calculates points and Hit Factor using the athlete’s power factor (Major/Minor).
  • Applies misses, no-shoots and procedurals.
  • Records who entered it (RO) and the athlete's confirmation (PIN).
  • Updates the squad order/queue on the stage.

4. DQ

  • During entry, the RO can request a DQ with the reason (rules 10.4–10.7); the athlete signs with the PIN.
  • The athlete leaves the lists immediately (pending status).
  • The Range Master, Stats or CRO (within their area scope) confirms or rejects it under Officials → DQ.
  • When the RM / Stats / CRO / manager requests it themselves, the DQ is confirmed immediately.
  • A confirmed DQ zeroes all of the athlete’s stages (the original results stay in the history). Reverting restores everything — details in Flows and integrity.

5. Correction vs reshoot

  • An entered score is protected (locked).
  • Correct score — RM / Stats / CRO authorize an edit (1 update on the active score).
  • Authorize reshoot — the previous score stays in the history (no longer counts); the RO enters a new line.
  • After saving, the score locks again.

6. DNF on the stage

  • DNF button in the squad/stage list: records a zero score (HF 0) and hides the athlete.
  • In the shooting order (management), DNF zeroes every stage without an active score.
  • Reactivate (RM / manager): removes only the zero DNF scores; real scores stay.

7. Officials (RM / Stats / CRO)

Panel at /oficiais:

  • Progress / Match progress — squad × stage view.
  • Internal ranking — validation during the match.
  • Authorizations — correct a score or authorize a reshoot.
  • DQ — confirm, reject or revert (CRO only within their area scope).
  • Appeals — queue of athlete requests; RM/Stats/manager decide.
  • Chrono — if there is a chronograph stage: measure, sign with the athlete's PIN.

CRO (Area Chief) — the area chief acts on the Stages and Squads of their own area: authorizes corrections and reshoots, confirms a DQ, records notes and marks attendance. Outside their area, those actions belong to the RM or Stats.

8. Notes

You can record observations on the athlete (e.g. timing failure). They show up for the team and help with communication on the field.

If the check is pending, the score entry screen redirects — finish the check first. The policy (no check / first stage / before the match) is defined by the entity.

9. Bluetooth timer (shot timer)

The scoring screen connects to a compatible shot timer: the last-shot time is filled in by itself when the string ends, and the splits are saved along with the score. The timer model is identified automatically on connection — there is nothing to pick.

  1. Tap Add Timer on the scoring screen and then Connect timer — the browser's device chooser opens. (On a device already set up to remember the authorization, the tap connects right away, with no window at all.)
  2. Pick the timer from the list (a name like SP M1A2 or SG-…) and that is it: once connected, it stays connected while the screen is open.
  3. Timer out of range or asleep? The system reconnects on its own as soon as it comes back — no need to touch anything.
Shooters Global timer: turn pairing mode on first. It uses secure pairing — without that step the connection drops and asks for confirmation again, never completing. On the SG Timer and SG Pulse Pro: Settings → Bluetooth → Pairing mode → On. On the SG Timer GO and SG Pulse: hold the power button until the Bluetooth icon blinks (about 4 seconds).
  • From then on you have 60 seconds to complete the connection from the tablet.
  • The confirmation happens on both sides: on the timer and in the browser window. There is no password to type — if a code shows up, it is only to check that it is the same on both.
  • SG Timer and SG Pulse Pro remember up to 8 devices and reconnect on their own. SG Timer GO and SG Pulse keep only one: if the timer is paired with someone's phone, it has to be paired again to work on the tablet.
  • The timer only streams shots in an RO session. In any other mode it connects (green button) and sends no shots at all.

Manufacturer's procedure: timer.shooters.global.

The Special Pie has no such step: it connects straight away, with no pairing.

The button color says it all: timer connected = green button. When switching athletes or reloading, check the color before starting — green, go ahead; gray, one tap reconnects. Reconnecting takes a few seconds ("Searching for the timer…") — it is the two devices' radios finding each other, and it is normal; once connected, shots arrive instantly.

Works in Chrome (computer or Android). There is no support on iPhone/iPad or in Firefox — a browser limitation, not a system one.

Timers supported today: Special Pie (SP M1A2 and M1A2-F) and Shooters Global (SG Timer, SG Timer 2 and SG Timer GO). Do you use another model and would like to see it integrated? Get in touch — every timer speaks its own protocol, and new integrations are considered case by case.

Club tablet? Set it up once and the timer reconnects on its own even after the page reloads. By default Chrome forgets the timer authorization on every reload (F5) and asks for a tap to reconnect. To make the device remember:
  1. Tap Add Timer — the timer window shows the setup address whenever the device does not yet remember the authorization. Tap Copy next to it.
  2. Paste the address into Chrome's address bar and open it.
  3. Set the highlighted option to Enabled and tap Relaunch to restart Chrome.
  4. Go back to the scoring screen: the timer window now shows "reconnects on its own".
Shots fired while the timer was disconnected are not recovered — the device does not allow reading its memory back. If the connection drops mid-string, the time can simply be typed in.

10. PIN reset by management

An athlete who forgot the PIN does not have to wait for the end of the Match: in the registration list, the manager (or RM / Stats) uses Reset PIN and picks one of two ways out.

  • Set it on the next Score — the current PIN is erased and the athlete creates a new one the next time they sign a Score, on your device. This works even in a Match whose equipment check is already done.
  • The athlete sets it now — they type the new PIN on the spot, on the management device. The PIN stays their secret: nobody at the club sees the number.
On the field side the effect is simple: if an athlete shows up without a PIN in a Match that already did the check, it is not an error — the Score entry screen will ask them to create the PIN before approving.

11. The lists refresh on their own

The Stage, Squad and athlete lists of the Score entry flow refresh on their own every couple of minutes, with no F5 and without losing scroll or filter: an athlete who joined the Squad, a check that got done and a Score entered by another RO all show up by themselves.

  • When a list changes, a discreet amber dot lights up next to the logo — it goes away on its own after a few minutes.
  • The Score entry screen does not refresh on its own, on purpose: there is typing in progress there (grid and time), and nothing may be swapped under your hand.

12. Printed receipt of the result

A Score summary has the Print button. On a phone or tablet it opens the device's share menu — that is where thermal (POS) printer apps show up, if any is installed; without one, it falls back to the system's normal print dialog.

The receipt carries division and Power Factor, time, points and Hit Factor, the penalty breakdown (10.2.x) and the athlete's signature hash — the same one shown in the public Verify.

13. Zoom locked on the field screens

On the screens operated on the Stage (Score entry, check, chrono and the Squad lists) pinch and double-tap zoom are disabled on Android. It is not a limitation: an accidental zoom in the middle of a Stage throws the RO off their place in the queue and the next touch lands on the wrong athlete. Outside the field, zoom stays free.
